How to fly in style

Dark glasses, check. Cashmere scarf, check. Cameron Diaz works airport chicWhat is it with those pesky celebs? Just when us mere mortals thought that schlepping through the airport before dehydrating on bloat-boosting flights permitted a complete disregard of style, up pops another snap of Alexa, Kate, Cameron and co sashaying through arrivals looking photo-ready even after a long haul flight. It's enough to make you sick, and really rather jealous.

OK, so they are probably lounging in first class rather than economy, have an entourage of beauty experts tending to their puffy faces and an on board nutritionist restraining them from consuming salty carbs. Lucky them. Bbut back in the real world and a handful of travel essentials can have you looking as post-flight-fresh as even the most fabulous of jet setters.
Check in
The key to dressing for a flight is to keep it comfortable yet chic enough to entice a free upgrade - we are forever hopeful! A simple loose-fitting shirt dress doubles as a night dress whilst on board and can be belted and worn with sandals for a stylish landing outfit. Chinos are an easy option as are high on comfort and look good even if slightly creased. Don't forget a soft cashmere scarf to fend off air conditioning-induced chills.
For ultimate jet setting appeal invest in stylish hand luggage and travel accessories such as a money wallet. Eye catching prints and colours are easy to spot in overhead luggage stores.

Boarding
Aircrafts often feel cold so make sure to have a pair of warm socks and a lightweight sweater to hand. Choose soft fabrics such as cashmere for a luxurious touch.
An eye mask is essential if you are planning on sleep. Holistic Silk have pretty styles infused with lavender which will help you relax. If you are a nervous flier then apply a stress relieving scent such as Aveda's stress-fix aroma oil to wrists and temples. De Mamiel's Altitude Oil contains lavender and patchouli which support the immune system when in transit. Sprinkle a few drops onto a tissue and inhale every few hours.

Take-off
Flying causes havoc with our skin so keep your face fresh and clean with handy make-up remover pads from This Works and regularly apply a moisturising balm to lips to stop them from drying out. Liz Earle's Foot Spritz contains peppermint and aloe to revitalise flight weary legs and feet; it smells great too. Pack everything into a stylish cosmetic case by Anya Hindmarch which has clear panels so will clear security.

Landing
Just before landing, give your face a moisture hit with a hydrating mask to ensure a glowing complexion on arrival. A slick of coloured lip balm is an instant beauty fix whilst a spritz of fragrance will have you feeling refreshed.
Pack a spare T-shirt for a quick outfit change; this is especially good if you've flown long haul or are landing somewhere hot. The finishing touch is a pair of over sized dark glasses.
